I told Sarah + Connor, just as they ran through a tunnel of sparklers to exit their reception – that I’d never cried more on a wedding day besides my own. The genuine love, emotion, and joy that radiated from Sarah + Connor’s wedding weekend at the Farm at Old Edwards in Highlands, NC was truly beyond words. These two are so abundantly special, as are their family and friends– something I think you’ll easily recognize as you peruse their gallery.
They met at Duke. Connor, from Boston; Sarah, from North Carolina. Both wildly brilliant and accomplished, but seemingly opposite in many ways. That didn’t stop one of the sweetest and strongest love stories from beginning. And, goodness– what a gift it is!
When planning their wedding, there was much to consider — namely, a location, as their friends and family are scattered throughout the world. Ultimately, they chose the Farm at Old Edwards in Highlands, North Carolina, because, “Sarah is happiest in the mountains.” And, with a backdrop like this – who wouldn’t be!?
The details of the day were truly stunning – from an invitation suite with custom watercolor illustrations of Highlands by Dear Kathryn and colorful, unique bouquets by Floressence Flowers, to signature cocktails in the orchard and a truly draw-dropping ceiling of floral beauty in the pavilion (also by the wildly-talented Floressence team). There was no shortage of beauty or charm.
The day began slowly, with Sarah and her sisters getting ready at the Farm, and Connor and his guys getting ready at Piermont Cottage. After their bowties were tied, they made their way to the Hummingbird lounge to share a few cocktails.
Sarah stepped into her gown with the help of her mom and sisters before beginning photos. Sarah + Connor shared a heartfelt first look atop the pond’s bridge, as their families looked on from a nearby balcony.
Sarah + Connor together are truly something special. The little glances they share, the genuine compliments, the utter JOY and giddiness of finally being married — it’s truly something to behold. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a groom more excited on his wedding day!
After a touching ceremony officiated by their dear friend, Sarah + Connor joined their guests for cocktails and hors devours in the Orchard. Dean’s Duets serenaded friends and family as they found their place cards, signed the guest book, and sipped champagne.
Guests then made their way to the Pavillion – featuring one of the most stunning floral installations I’ve seen to date. Colorful roses, greenery, candles and lights hung over Sarah + Connor as honored guests gave speeches – speaking of their loving relationship and many accolades.
Following the toasts, the party began — The Free absolutely broke.it.down as guests danced to everything from Shania Twain to Lizzo. Sarah then snuck away for a quick change into another dress (and comfy slippers!) and then rejoined the dance floor. Guests made their way outside after the last song, while Sarah + Connor stayed behind to share a private dance.
A tunnel of sparklers awaited them – and they ran down to their getaway golf cart.
Sarah + Connor, I can’t tell you what a joy and an honor it was to photograph your wedding day. You two are the real deal, and I’m thankful to know you!
