When Katherine + Carter envisioned their wedding day, they pictured their guests enjoying cocktails in the open air– with a cloudless sky and a light breeze.
The week before their big day, however, the forecast called for something a bit different: severe storms, hail, damaging winds, and flash floods. As they scrambled to refine a rain plan, their vendor team came together to offer as many alternatives as possible. Should they move their wedding to Friday or Sunday? Change locations?
Finally, a new plan was born, and we waited on the weather.
The morning of their wedding, the storms began to roll in. Hail, wind, and a downpour of rain covered the area. By the time hair and makeup had ended, though, the clouds began to part and show a bit of sunshine!
During the break in the rain, we were able to photograph outside at the Wynn House, a historic home in Columbus. Katherine’s unique dress by Lili Hod was perfectly complimented by her bouquet of white ranunculus, hydrangeas, and calla lilies. Her 3 bridesmaids, all family members, wore elegant pale gray floor-length dresses.
After Katherine + Carter shared a first look, the sky opened up again and we retreated to the home’s porch for more photos with their beloved dog, Tucker, who wore a precious floral crown.
Guests then joined in the first power house for a touching ceremony. Katherine’s dad, a judge, walked her down the aisle before positioning himself behind the lectern and officiating the ceremony!
For cocktail hour, Chef Jamie Keating pulled out all the stops. His warehouse was transformed into a beautiful, light-filled venue. Miniature chicken tacos tacos, tempura gouda and grapes, and fried green tomatoes were passed as guests enjoyed cocktails in monogrammed cups.
We stepped outside for some sunset photos, and the sky opened up again– we even caught a bolt of lightning!
As guests meandered to the other power house to enjoy drinks and dancing, the sun began to blaze and poured through the building’s giant windows to illuminate the first dances.
As the night wound on, Katherine + Carter joined their friends and family on the dance floor for dancing and merriment before running through a tunnel of sparklers and off to their honeymoon.
It was a day filled with wild weather and tons of fun!
Katherine + Carter, thank you so much for inviting us to document your day! It was a joy and an honor!
