Friends, let me tell you about Isabelle. She’s incredible. I don’t mean that in a half-hearted, trying-to-be-complementary way. I mean that in a real way. She’s a talented equestrian and performer, a wonderful daughter, sister, and friend, and now a freaking warrior – of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Lately, I’ve been listening to an album on repeat, and one of my favorite songs talks about the seasons of our lives – and how some, our “winters,” are painful and sometimes long, but that the Lord promises to stand by us throughout it:

Though the winter is long even richer
The harvest it brings
Though my waiting prolongs even greater
Your promise for me like a seed
I believe that my season will come…
I can see the promise
I can see the future
You’re the God of seasons
I’m just in the winter

I think of this song and think of so many of my own struggles and those of my friends and family – and I think of Isabelle. This is certainly a winter season for her – but one that I know she will overcome. Today she starts her second round of chemo with a smile on her face. I told you – she’s incredible.

We wanted to document these days and photograph her senior pictures in places that meant the most to her. The first was the Springer Opera House – a place that she’s spent so much of her time on stage. The second was in the fields and barn with Hayley, her horse.

I mean it when I say that this was one of my favorite sessions for so many reasons. I was able to get to know Isabelle so much better, spend time with her and her sweet mama, and also photograph her on her GORGEOUS HORSE AT SUNSET IN A FIELD – what more could I ask for? Sure, there were run-ins with snakes and baby deer (more terrifying than it sounds) – but really, it was so fun.

Thank you, Isabelle, for letting me come along on one part of this wild ride. You are amazing and I am so thankful to know you!
